A Review of the Best Class C RVs

Senior man and woman excited and smiling in front of a Class C RVClass C RVs are among the most common and recognizable on the market. They are notorious for their easy handling, space, towing capabilities and safety features. For these reasons, and more, class C RVs are perfect options for both new and seasoned RVers.

What is a Class C RV?

Class C RVs are built on a cutaway chassis, meaning the front portion looks very similar to a cargo van or truck. There are entry doors on both sides, providing easier access to the cab portion from the outside. The camper portion of the class C RV extends over the cab area. This overhangor cab-over space is most commonly used to store Queen or King-sized beds, but some manufacturers are using the space for TVs, entertainment centers and extra storage.

The body of the RV includes a small passageway that leads to the living area. The living area typically includes a drop down dinette, stove, refrigerator, folding sofa and a bathroom with shower stall and toilet. Some frames are extended to include an additional bedroom suite in the back. Class C RVs include plenty of cupboards and hiding spaces inside and compartments outside for maximum storage. There are also storage tanks for water, waste and propane.

The length of a class C RV can range between 20 to 33 feet. With the large cab-over bed, folding sofa, and drop down dinette, most class C RVs can sleep six comfortably; if the rear is extended to include a bedroom suite, eight can be accommodated.

Class C RVs can range in price from a little more than $50,000 to well over $100,000.

Safety Features of a Class C RV

The RV Consumer Group considers the class C motor home safer over other classes primarily for the cockpit construction, which features a frontal crush area and all-steel cage offering protection for the driver ad passenger in a rollover situation. The cutaway chassis foundation provides built-in safety features normally associated with a standard cargo van or truck.

Another noted safety feature of the class C RV is the door in the cab in addition to the entrance into the living area, which provides an additional escape route.
